The Club > Club History

Over the past years Thailand has enjoyed a strong growth in equestrian activities, primarily in Bangkok and the beach resort of Pattaya, 150 kms to the East on the Gulf of Thailand and sixty to ninety minutes drive from the Bangkok International Airport.

The number of riders is growing steadily and, the quality of riding has improved tremendously. This was witnessed during the recent South-East-Asian Games held in Thailand during December 2007.

It was not until the late 1990’s that Mr. Link and his friends, particularly Mrs. Nunthinee Tanner caught the polo bug and decided to establish their own club in nearby Pattaya. The beautiful countryside surrounding Pattaya encouraged their love for the sport.

Thai Polo & Equestrian Club opened in 2005, set in over  200 hectares the club has two international-standard, full-sized fields, a practice ground, stabling for over  120 horses, paddocks and approximately 80 horses for the use of members. The staff includes an Argentinian manager, veternarian and farrier, together with a number of Thai assistants.

The club, set amid the wooded hills, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand features high quality facilities that have attracted many local and international players. The Thai Polo Open sponsored by Credit Suisse and Mercedes Benz in January 2008 attracted 7 teams including a contingent from the venerable Hamburger Polo Club in Germany.

In 2007 the renowned Australian course designer Wayne Copping was recruited to create an international standard cross country course suitable for the South East Asian Games. According to Mr. Copping the course at Thai Polo Club is one of  the best cross country courses in Asia.

During this year an Endurance Course was added and an International Derby facility is under construction. Mr. Link changed the name to Thai Polo &  Equestrian Club in order to reflect the growing importance these two facilities have in the overall growth of Equestrian sports in Thailand.

At the end of 2008 the legendary American based polo coach Rege Ludwig will open a polo school at the Thai Polo & Equestrian Club. Clinics will be offered for all skill levels and age groups. Rege Ludwig will spend a couple of months at the club to offer his renowned teachings, both in Thailand and in other countries.
